ACTIVITY DURING WWII

PRIVATE FIRST CLASS. ENTERED ACTIVE DUTY IN THE ARMY ON MAY 21, 1943. BEING A SKILLED CARPENTER HE WAS ASSIGNED TO COMPANY B, 106TH ENGINEERS (C) BATTALION, 31ST INFANTRY DIVISION. THE DIVISION SHIPPED OUT ON FEBRUARY 10, 1944 AND ARRIVED IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC ON MARCH 17,1944. AFTER SERVING IN NEW GUINEA THEY MOVED TO MOROTAI ISLAND. ON NOVEMBER 20,1944 HE WAS BLINDED BY THE EXPLOSION OF A LAND MINE. WAS MEDICALLY EVACUATED BACK TO THE U.S. AND RECEIVED EXTENSIVE TREATMENTS AND REHABILITATION EFFORTS. HE WAS MEDICALLY DISCHARGED FROM AVON, CONNECTICUT ON MAY 22, 1946. FOR HIS GALLANT SERVICE FOR HIS COUNTRY HE RECEIVED THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN RIBBON WITH 2 BATTLE STARS, PURPLE HEART, AMERICAN THEATER RIBBON, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL.
