ACTIVITY DURING WWII

ENTERED TEXAS A&M AND GRADUATED IN 1941. RECEIVED HIS DEGREE, ARMY COMMISSION AND ORDERS TO REPORT ON THE SAME DAY. SERVED WITH THE 77TH FIELD ARTILLERY IN AFRICA, SICILY AND ITALY, PARTICIPATING IN ALL THREE INVASIONS AND ALL MAJOR BATTLES OF THE ITALIAN CAMPAIGN, INCLUDING THE RAPIDO, CASINO AND PO VALLEY. THE BATTALION BECAME THE 631ST FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION. HE QUICKLY ROSE TO THE RANK OF MAJOR.
HE WAS RESPECTED BY SENIOR OFFICERS FOR LEADERSHIP AND MILITARY SKILLS (MOST NOTABLY MAP READING), AND WELL KNOWN FOR DEDICATION AND BRAVERY. DECORATED WITH TWO BRONZE STARS, THE SILVER STAR WITH TWO OAK LEAF CLUSTERS, AND WAS NOMINATED FOR THE LEGION OF MERIT.
