ENTERED ACTIVE DUTY AS A DRAFTEE ON JANUARY 13, 1942 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE QUARTERMASTER CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (MOS 345). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON JUNE 17, 1945 BOUND FOR THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 81ST QUARTERMASTER COMPANY, 81ST ‘WILDCAT’ INFANTRY DIVISION, ENGAGED IN THE SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES CAMPAIGN. AFTER VICTORY IN JAPAN, THE 81ST DIVISION PERFORMED OCCUPATION DUTIES IN THE AOMORI PREFECTURE OF THE CONQUERED NATION. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICAL SERGEANT ON FEBRUARY 9, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI. EARNED THE MERITORIOUS UNIT PLAQUE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR, WWII VICTORY MEDAL, ARMY OF OCCUPATION MEDAL (JAPAN), AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR.
