Corporate America: The Arsenal of Democracy
"The production which has flowed from this country to all the battlefields of the world has been due to the efforts of American business, American labor, and American farmers working as a patriotic team." -- President Franklin D. Roosevelt

There have been many wars that shaped the history of their time, but no singular event so dramatically changed the entire course of our history as did the Second World War. The impact was both on a global and individual level, altering lives, communities, and nations unlike any event before or since. The World War II Memorial will stand as a testament to the heroic efforts and sacrifices of all Americans who served–both in the armed forces and on the home front.

Corporate America, our country’s "Arsenal of Democracy," was essential to the success of the war effort. From 1941 to 1945, military manufacturing increased 800 percent, and advanced technology resulted in the capability to build one military plane every five minutes and a new war ship every day. This effort not only changed the face of the nation, it also launched America to its current position as the world’s greatest superpower.

Corporations and millions of Americans on the home front used their ingenuity, expertise, and resourcefulness to help win World War II. Since that time, Corporate America has continued to serve its country as the world’s leading innovators and manufacturers. The memorial will be a timeless salute to the companies and individual Americans who helped secure victory and enabled future generations to receive the most precious gift of all–freedom. Employees, stockholders, and customers of corporate contributors will share a common pride in this everlasting tribute.
