ACTIVITY DURING WWII

ENTERED SERVICE IN 1944 AND DISCHARGED IN 1946. INITIAL TRAINING AND ADVANCED MACHINIST'S MATE TRAINING WERE AT GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS. AFTER OPTICAL REPAIR SCHOOL IN BREMERTON, WASHINGTON, WAS ASSIGNED TO A SUBMARINE REPAIR UNIT IN BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA. AS THE WAR PROCEEDED NORTHWARD, A CADRE OF 300 SAILORS WAS DEPLOYED TO HELP BUILD A NEW SUBMARINE REPAIR FACILITY AT SUBIC BAY IN THE PHILIPPINES. AFTER THE WAR ENDED, RETURNED TO THE NAVAL BASE IN CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA TO PREPARE DESTROYERS FOR THE MOTH-BALL FLEET. HIGHEST RANK HELD WAS A 2ND CLASS PETTY OFFICE; SPECIAL ARTIFICER (OPTICAL) 2ND CLASS.
