ACTIVITY DURING WWII

ENLISTED AND SERVED IN THE U.S. ARMY FROM 1931-1937 WITH THE 29TH INFANTRY REGIMENT (WE LEAD THE WAY) AT FORT BENNING, GEORGIA AND THE 31ST INFANTRY REGIMENT (POLAR BEARS) IN THE PHILIPPINES. RETURNED TO ACTIVE DUTY IN 1941. COMMISSIONED AND SERVED WITH COMPANY B, 513TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT, 17TH AIRBORNE DIVISION IN THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. PARTICIPATED IN THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE WHEN 17TH AIRBORNE DIVISION WAS ATTACHED TO GENERAL PATTON'S 3RD ARMY. CAPTURED AS A 1ST LIEUTENANT AND ENDED THE WAR AS A POW. AWARDED THE MASTER PARACHUTIST BADGE, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR, WWII VICTORY MEDAL, COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, BRONZE STAR, PURPLE HEART AND POW MEDAL.
