ACTIVITY DURING WWII

RANK: SERGEANT. HE WAS INDUCTED INTO THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS JANUARY 24, 1942 AND PARTICIPATED IN BASIC COMBAT TRAINING AT THE MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA. SERVED IN THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS, WHERE HE EXPERIENCED COMBAT WITH FOX COMPANY, 2ND BATTALION, 8TH MARINES, SECOND MARINE ‘THE SILENT SECOND’ DIVISION. PARTICIPATED IN THE AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT IN THE BATTLE OF SAIPAN (DATES OF INVASIONS: JUNE 15-JULY 9, 1944) MARIANA ISLANDS CAMPAIGN. ON SATURDAY, JUNE 17, 1944 HE DIED OF WOUNDS THAT WERE SUFFERED IN COMBAT AND WAS BURIED AT SEA. HE IS MEMORIALIZED IN THE TABLETS OF THE MISSING, HONOLULU NATIONAL MEMORIAL CEMETERY OF THE PACIFIC, ‘PUNCHBOWL’ HAWAII. DECORATIONS AND CITATIONS: SILVER STAR AND PURPLE HEART. THE SILVER STAR WAS BESTOWED UPON THE SERGEANT FOR DISTINGUISHED GALLANTRY IN ACTION AND VALOR IN COMBAT AGAINST AN ENEMY FORCE DURING THE GUADALCANAL CAMPAIGN. THIS MARINE, AN AMERICAN PATRIOT, WAS AWARDED THE PURPLE HEART FOR HIS SUPREME SACRIFICE IN DEFENSE OF HIS COUNTRY.
