Served as a Lieutenant and as Commanding Officer of USS LCI(L) 326, successfully landing the SEVENTH Corps, United States Army on the Cherbourg Peninsula of France against well prepared defenses and strong opposition on 6 June 1944, and subsequently landed his troops early on D-Day and stood off the beach for salvage duty. Awarded the Silver star medal.
