Served as a Captain and as Naval Gunfire Officer of the Third Joint Assault Signal Company, Headquarters Battalion, Third Marine Division, and operationally attached to the First battalion, Third Marines, Third Marine Division, during operations against enemy Japanese forces at Guam, Mariana Islands, during July 1944. Awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action and the purple heart and the bronze star medal.
