Officer in the Texas National Guard, 36th Division, Field Artillery. Called to the European conflict in 1943 under the command of General Mark Clark. After training in North Africa, the 36th participated in the invasion of Italy at Salerno and on to Rome. Later the 36th invaded Southern France.
